![]() It is hard to believe October is over. October has been a busy month for us in first grade. In Bible we have been learning about Abraham and Sarah. In Phonics we have been reviewing blends, special sounds, and making compound words. Math seems to be a lot of the students favorite subject. We have been learning about counting money, telling time, and word problems. We enjoyed Grandparents Day getting on stage and showing our grandparents what we had learned so far in first grade. Then we had fun on our field trip to the Maze Adventure. Last, everyone is excited about the Fall Festival. Before we know it Thanksgiving will be here!!!! In His Service

![]() An Amaizeing Adventure! The k-5 thru 3rd gr. went to the Maize Adventure Oct. 20th. It was really a fun experience! We went through a corn maize, rode a tram around the grounds, dug for 'gems', and each child was able to pick out a pumpkin to take home. I would like to share some of my students' comments: Summer wrote: Would you like to go to the Maize Adventure with me? Come on let's go! We can go through a maize and hunt for gems and dig for dino bones. We can also go through a pumpkin patch and also ride a tram!
Samantha wrote: First we went through the corn maize. Second we went gem mining. My favorite part was the tram. Fourth we ate lunch. Then we did a couple other things and then we went home.
Chase R. wrote:I had a really really great time at the Maize Adventure. I like talking to my friends. I liked going to the shop and looking at stuff. I like riding the bus that was fun too.
Chase G. wrote: My favorite was the gem mine. The funny part was the bees trying to get the popcorn.

maze. Then we got bags of rocks to clean. Then we had a tractor ride. We went into the corn maze again and we got lost and had to find our way out, finally we got out. Then we went to the pumpkin patch and got one pumpkin. I got a pretty big one, but my brother’s was the biggest. I had a lot of fun! My Best Friend by L. Holland I have a friend named Ashton. She is really a funny person and she shares her scooter on Wednesdays with me. She lives across the street from me, and we play together all the time. One time she invited me over to her house and we had a big sleep over! We woke up in the morning and we went skating. I slipped a couple of times, but I got up and tried again. I have had great times with Ashton. Summer Fun by T. Smallwood This summer I went to Carowinds with my brother and dad. It was a long trip it took about two hours to get there! I went on several roller coasters. My favorite was the Carolina Cobra, because you would think you were going to fall off the edge. We stopped by Arby’s on the way back to get some lemonade. It was a great trip! Maize Adventure by J. Edwin We went on a field trip to Maize Adventure. We did the corn maze first and got lost two times! Then we saw a scarecrow sitting next to a tent talking but it was fake, I think. Next we on a tram to see the rest of the Maize Adventure. After that we washed some rocks and found crystals. Then we went to the pumpkin patch to pick some pumpkins. I got the biggest one in the class room. We went to the souvenir shop and Daniel was the only one who could buy something, because he was the only one with money. While they were in the shop we dug in the sand for fossils. After we left. I really had a great adventure that day! Mrs. Timmirian Williams 3rd Grade |
Snapshot: Wisdom & PrayerOne morning, with a new devotional in hand, this is what I read: "Merciful God: Take from us all hardness of heart and dimness of mind." There was more but those words hit me like a ton of bricks so I stopped there to pray for our students - that whatever would cause "hardness of heart and dimness of mind" would be removed.
That very morning, Alex came to school and said, "My dad is going to do something different with me that he wants to talk to you about after school." At carpool, Dad did indeed tell me that he'd just come from the grocery store having purchased healthy foods for Alex - rice cakes, cheese and crackers, yogurt, etc. Foods without red and blue dye, no high fructose corn syrup, and smaller amounts of sugar. (Someone once wrote, "When I pray coincidences happen, when I don't, they don't.") The transformation in Alex has been dramatic! She's able to complete her work (when the norm was to daily send it home and Dad got to help her finish), she can focus when taking tests and is no longer one of the last to finish, she can have "good" days with no "bad" tallies, and the class is amazed to the point where we've stopped to applaud for her because of her successes! There have been comments softly spoken when one will say, "Alex is finished, but I'm not done yet!" Thank you Mom and Dad, for seeing a change was needed to help your little one and you've chosen to do something about it, even though it may take adjustments in lifestyle and the wallet. The results have been immediate and extremely positive! Footnote: More of what I read that morning was, "A Student's Prayer" by John Calvin (1509-1564) O Lord, you are the fountain of all wisdom and learning. You have given to me the years of my youth to learn the arts and skills necessary to live an honest and holy life. Enlighten my mind, that I may acquire knowledge. Strengthen my memory that I may retain what I have learned. Govern my heart, that I may always be eager and diligent in all of my studies. And cause your Spirit of truth, judgment, and prudence to guide my understanding, that I may perceive how everything I learn fits into your holy plan for the world. Amen.

Holding on to What's Good (Romans 12:9)
"As a servant of Jesus Christ, God wants you to bind yourself to everything good, to whatever is inherently right and worthy.
That task requires the use of discernment. With the help of God and His Word, you must carefully evaluate everything and thoughtfully decide what to reject and what to cling to (1 Thes. 5:21-22). As you separate yourself from worldly things and saturate yourself with Scripture, that which is good will increasingly replace that which is evil. Then you will fulfill Paul's message to the Romans: '
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2)" Truth For Today by John MacArthur Let's be encouraged through Paul's message of not of 'not growing weary in well-doing'. Thank you to all of our parents for their encouragement and prayers during our first nine weeks.
