WE ARE THANKFUL FOR…..

BY TERRI BLANKENSHIP AND MICHELLE HARDY

What Thanksgiving means to my family and I.

My family and I have been very fortunate that we do not have to travel over our Thanksgiving holiday because our family's live close together.  On Thanksgiving morning my husband always bakes pumpkin pies that's right I said my husband not me.  I love the smell of pumpkin pies baking but I do not like to eat pumpkin pie.

My family and I go over to my husband's parents and eat lunch, take a nap and spend the afternoon just hanging out with family.  It is nice to be able to spend time with family over Thanksgiving and just set back and reflect on all the things I have to be thankful for.

Thanksgiving day is not the only day we should give thanks to the Lord we should give thanks to him each day.  Psalm 100:3 - 4 says: Know ye that the Lord he is God; it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

I am thankful for each day the the Lord gives me, each day is a gift from him.  I am thankful for my husband, my children, my health and strength to take care of my family.  My list of things to be thankful for could go on and on and on,  I just know I am thankful each day not just on Thanksgiving Day.  I wish everyone a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!!!!

Thanksgiving is one of those times when my family gets together and we fellowship with food and games.  I am so thankful for my family and the many blessings the Lord has bestowed upon us this year.

I am especially thankful for the new addition to the family, Brian Nicholas that we will be able to see in the months to follow.  Please pray for my family that we continue to grow in the things of God and in His mercies.

When younger, my thoughts of Heaven were mostly streets of gold, angels with beautiful wings, no darkness because God is the light, and finally seeing Jesus.  Now though,

Heaven is more about those I'll see, those who've gone on ahead of me.  At Thanksgiving and Christmas when family comes to visit from as far away as Washington, Texas, and Louisiana, I think God is giving me a glimpse of Heaven - when we'll all "gather together."

What does Thanksgiving mean?

When we think about all the things we are blessed with...... family, friends, food, shelter, clothes to wear, our church fellowship, jobs, education.......I could go on and on. And I should. To God be the glory for all these things!

But wait.... each of us has a more important need than even those listed above. Salvation. If your life hasn't been saved by accepting Jesus into your heart, then friend, I am praying for you to make that choice. RIGHT NOW! Imagine being able to add this to your thankfulness list: "I will spend eternity with my Lord and Savior!"

If you are blessed enough to say: "I am a Christian!" Praise God! Share your special gift with others. Let His light shine through you in every way; through your actions and your words.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving,

What does Thanksgiving mean to me?

Thanksgiving was always a day of family time starting out at home with my Mom and Dad and my brother for a BIG breakfast. Then it was off to Granny's house where we would have our fill of turkey and dressing and all of the trimmings.

After we were all stuffed, my cousin would pull out his guitar and we would all sit around and sing. When I was younger my Papaw would pull out the old wash tub beat a tune and sing. Wow the memories.

Things are different now my Papaw has been in Heaven for 20 years and Granny is celebrating her second year with Jesus.

We are starting new traditions for my children and my niece and nephew. We all meet at
Nana and Papaw's and have a wonderful breakfast (with papaw's favorite Christmas music playing in the background)

As soon as the dishes are done, me and Mom and my sister-in-law get the newspaper and decided when and where we are going shopping the next day.

All the while the Macy's day parade is on and Papaw is calling out all of the floats and big balloons that are going by to the grand kids as my husband and my brother are pretending to watch however we know that they are napping.

When the parade is over the Christmas train comes out and all of the grandchildren put it together and discuss what they want for Christmas.
I am thankful for a God that is still in control and the promise of eternal life through my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

"I have so much to thank Him for so much to praise Him for you see He has been so good to me." He has given me Christian parents and a Christian husband. He has
saved my children. I can say today It is Well with my soul.

To Our SLA Family,

If anyone should lead the charge in giving thanks it should be the child of God.  Of all the words written in holy Scripture, perhaps none would more describe what has been done on our behalf than those that relate to the giving of thanks.  For our family, it is an opportunity for us to thank God for the salvation that comes only through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
Thanking God for all He has done fo us,

In Him,

Robert & Deborah Horne, Emily, Joshua & Jonah Horne

Thanksgiving is a time for my family (immediate & extended) and me to slow down from our busy lives and reflect on how God has blessed us.  We always gather around the table and take turns telling what we are thankful for.  This Thanksgiving, I will tell how thankful I am for my husband and my children and their salvation and health.  Also, for my parents, siblings, friends, job, church and their place in my life.

Thanksgiving means togetherness with family and friends enjoying pumpkin pie, turkey and other delicious foods!  It it is also a time to reflect on God's many blessings throughout the year and to be thankful that you can be together once again. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

My husband, John and I are thankful this year because God has been so faithful to us.  He has given us provision on my occasions.  I am going to be an aunt at the end of the month.  Also, my Daddy just recently moved back to North Carolina.  That is a HUGE blessing for me.

As I sit here and reflect upon what Thanksgiving means to me, I realize that it would be too great a task to put into words.  I will try my best to share.

Thanksgiving is so wonderful and just the thought of how special this holiday is brings a smile to my face. My childhood memories are the fondest; beginning with Thanksgiving morning, sitting in my PJ's watching the 'Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade' and drinking hot chocolate.

The smells of cinnamon rolls, apples and spices, and turkey being cooked made for a great beginning of the day.  We soon would head to my grandparent's with our goodies and meet a household of cousins, my aunt and uncle, and of course, Granny.

All the kids will sit down to watch a 'Charlie Brown Thanksigiving' then usually watch football. We  soon begin stuffing ourselves with enough food to feed an army!  The day ends with my brother and I sleeping in the car on the way home.
I love this holiday, but wish it could be like it used to be... with lots of family close by.

Now, with just my son and I, it's different.  I still watch the parade in my pj's, but have coffee instead of hot chocolate, (that's for my son) and I try my best to cook the things I so loved as a child.  I am just so thankful for all the Lord has blessed us with and wouldn't change a thing!

My family and I are thankful that we still have the right to gather freely at church!

We are also thankful for our times together as a family.

To me, Thanksgiving is all about God, and thanking Him for all the blessings that I receive every day! I always look forward to this holiday because I get to spend quality time with my family. This year we are doing something new before dinner! We are teaming up with another family and having a big flag football game. It will be so much fun!

Every year before the blessing we always go around the table and tell each other what we are thankful for. I love hearing what everyone has to say! Here are just a few of the things I am thankful for: I am thankful that God sent his son to die for MY sins! I am thankful for God’s grace, even when I do not deserve it. I am thankful that I have a beautiful family at home and here at SLA! I am thankful for my health. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving this year!!!

For me, Thanksgiving means giving thanks to God for allowing me to have family and friends to love just as He loves us.

It is a time for sharing, caring, and taking time to join with loved ones to corporately give thanks for the great things God has done for us.

Whether we have a feast for Thanksgiving or a meager meal, it is always good to give thanks because God is always good.
With a Thankful Heart,

Thanksgiving... I can’t even say the word without smiling and remembering the storybook experience... Crackling fire, ponies, goats, food, kids, laughter, fun and  did I mention food. We all gather for that day. This was where the magazine pictures of Thanksgiving were made, where everything shines because its all on silver platters surrounded by lit candlesticks everywhere.  Decorations; pumpkins, gourds, apples, straw placed carefully around the house adding color and warmth . It was the one day everyone came; no excuses, not even giving birth to a child-I tried that one.

At Grammas’ house it didn’t matter if it was 35’ or 65’ outside there was always a roaring fire and 95’ inside. The warmth only enhanced the smell of turkey and pie. Everyone squeezed around the enlarge dining room table as the family, adopted family and friends gathered to celebrate the feast. Platters of food stretch across the length of both ends of the room with more on the table, in the kitchen on the counters and the table and that’s not counting dessert.

Afterward the meal we would scattered through the house, the yard, the barn, the hayloft, and even the school yard grounds across the street. It was just a little break before the dessert feast. Dessert was just as important as the meal to Gramma. She had to have 2 different decorated birthday caked (one for each child celebrating a birthday that week)  along with the traditional pumpkin, mince meat, apple and peanut butter pie, and of course don’t forget the  ice cream and whip cream in case you can squeeze that in.

Anyways, that is what it was. Thanksgiving. I am thankful for the memories. The cherished times with so much family. Now we all gather as we can. We use Grammas’ plates. And remember the days, count our blessing for the family that is left, for God’s gracious provisions for the past year, and the ones yet to come. We are all most thankful for the time he has given us to be together and we try to make the most of it.

Thanksgiving Delights

On Thanksgiving Day we’re thankful for
Our blessings all year through,
For family we dearly love,
For good friends, old and new.

For sun to light and warm our days,
For stars that glow at night,
For trees of green and skies of blue,
And puffy clouds of white.

We’re grateful for our eyes that see
The beauty all around,
For arms to hug, and legs to walk,
And ears to hear each sound.

The list of all we’re grateful for
Would fill a great big book;
Our thankful hearts find new delights
Everywhere we look!

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for God’s many blessings for my family. Especially this year, being thankful and happy with what we have and often take for granted, like a job, a home, and health.

What Thanksgiving means to me is being thankful for family and fellowshiping with them. Inviting other people over to our house and sharing a meal and watching football while snacking all day (gaining weight). Basically being around people that I love to be around and having great food to eat.

Thanksgiving means to me a time to reflect and to give God thanks for ALL he has done in my life.  It also is a time to spend with my family who I love with all my heart!

Mr. Danny Robinson

For our family, Thanksgiving means a time for gathering of loved ones to a central place for the fellowship of a good meal, giving thanks to God for all the blessings on us and our country and knowing the Detroit Lions will lose on TV football.

Mr. Andy Vandiver
Middle & High School Science

There are many things that I am always thankful for - my salvation, my family, my church.  But this year I am most thankful for beginning able to come to Shining Light and be a high school teacher.   I always enjoy teaching, but I especially love seeing young people that are preparing to go out into the world in this generation and live their life for Christ. My prayer for my students is that they realize the richness of their salvation and that God would be their anchor, their source and their strength.

Mrs. Michele Worley
High School English & Speech

Thanksgiving means a lot to me, as I believe it represents a time to give thanks for all the wonderful things that the Lord has provided. I often times give thanks for personal things, like good health, etc, but I sometimes fail to give thanks for the more important things in life (immediate & church family, friends, etc). It is truly a blessing from God for me to have been blessed with wonderful friends who faithfully serve God. Even more, I am thankful to have a wonderful mother, who shares the love of God with many, while still managing to give us (her children) heart-warmed love. I’m thankful for my siblings, and overall grateful that my family and I are really close. Thanksgiving is not just a time for me to give thanks, but also a time to share my thanks by giving. While I love to celebrate with my family/friends’, and eat my mother’s “good ole’ country food” I enjoy spending part of the holiday serving others’ who are not less fortunate.

This year my family is thankful for so many things, but overall the incrediable awseome power of our Father God who cares for someone as simple as us and provides for our every need!

Over the past year and a half, God has moved in our lives in ways that we could never have imagined and opened up so many doors!

On our own we could never have imagined where our lives would be now and we are so blessed to have a great family and friends who love God as much as we do and that we have someone to share these things with.

Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Mrs. Stephanie Mason

Thanksgiving for my family is usually spend as a day reflectling on our blessings through the years.  Both of my mother's parents died on Thanksgiving Day, although many years apart.  We have been forced to value family more and be more thankful as a result of these experiences.  After my grandmother's death, my parents visited with me for a few days every year during the Thanksgiving holidays for almost twenty years. I really enjoyed their company.

Now that both of my parents are deceased, we still value family, and we remain thankful. Members of my family who live in Guilford County now get together on Thanksgiving Day around 3:00 p. m. for dinner.  We will spend the rest of the day and evening enjoying each other.
